Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes, to both questions. We are licensed as a Class A contractor. We also carry all of the required insurance for our company, our team, and our vehicles.
-
Our administrator will follow up first to schedule a 15-minute intake call so we can learn more about your project. From there, our Leadership team will review the intake to determine if we are a good fit for you. If Leadership feels it is a good match, we will reach back out to schedule a site visit. If Leadership feels we are not a good fit for your project, we will kindly communicate this in a reasonable timeframe.
For any questions or clarifications about the rest of our process, please review “Our Processes” in the menu tab above.
-
Lead times on projects are dependent on a lot of factors, such as the type and size of your project, ease of acquiring permits, and even the weather.
For remodel projects and smaller additions, we are currently scheduling out about 4-6+ months.
For new construction, the lead time is closer to 12+ months.
If you think you will be ready to start any type of project within the next 12 months, we recommend you reach out now to begin the development and design process.

We will occasionally entertain certain projects that are outside our normal service areas, but these will be considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure our bottom line. In general, however, we do not stray far from Charlottesville.
If you are unsure of whether or not your project is within our service area, please feel free to reach out to us using the “Contact” menu tab above.
-
We greatly respect our active and veteran military service members.
However, because we do not receive any kind of discount from our suppliers and trade partners, we are unable to offer a discount on our services.
-
If you have been presented with a ballpark estimate and would like to proceed, we charge a design retainer fee. This fee is typically 5% of the ballpark estimate quote, and it is nonrefundable. However, should you proceed with us, this fee will be credited to the final invoice at the end of your project.
(If you are quoted a price range in your estimate, the design retainer will be 5% of the median range.)
-
In general, we do not provide estimates without being able to conduct a site visit. We work hard to communicate clearly and effectively with our clients, and if we present a number that misrepresents the scope of work, we set false expectations.
If you are not local or do not live in the area full-time and are concerned about how to make a site visit happen, please feel free to contact us and we will gladly try to find a creative solution, if possible.
-
We offer turn-key, white-glove service.
While we respect some clients’ desire to “GC” or manage their own project, it can quickly become messy, and often leads to a breakdown in the relationship and the project's efficiency. As a result, when you hire Crosscut Construction, you hire us to handle the complete management and execution of your project.
-
We maintain our own network of top-notch trade partners who know us and our processes, and who prioritize our projects. We feel it is important for us to be able to fully stand behind the work performed on our projects, and in order for us to do that, we have to know the trade partner and the quality of their work.
If you are planning to hire a separate trade partner for aspects of your project, please make this clear to our team as soon as possible during the intake and design process so we can make sure these details are captured in your signed proposal.
-
We respect that each person comes to us with a different level of previous project experience (or none!) and understanding about how the process works. We also understand that the thought of engaging with contractors and tackling projects can be really daunting for some people.
We work hard to keep our clients informed in a variety of ways best suited to their communications needs, including sending progress updates and pictures, having phone calls, and meeting on site in person. Our team strives to stay as accessible as possible so you never lose your sense of agency over your own project.

Of course! We cannot promise to solve your problem, but if we can be of help or if we can point you in another direction, we will. Either way, we commit to being honest with you.
